Burgas – Easy to Reach from Europe and the World

If you are wondering how to get to Burgas and where exactly it is located, there is no need to worry! There are many ways to reach this seemingly small point on the map, and each offers a scenic journey and an opportunity to discover more along the way. There are many ways to get here: via the international airport, the seaport, by rail or by road. Burgas offers excellent connectivity, modern infrastructure and convenient access for both Bulgarian and international visitors, as we will explain below.

First, let’s choose the airport!

The fastest and most convenient way to reach Burgas is via Burgas International Airport (BOJ), located just 15 minutes by car from the city centre and 10 minutes from Arena Burgas. This means you can begin your Eurovision experience almost immediately. The airport has the infrastructure and operational capacity required to handle up to 21 aircraft movements per hour, and 1,800 arriving and 1,800 departing passengers per hour. This provides sufficient flexibility for additional charter operations alongside scheduled services, including dedicated flights for delegations, organised groups and Eurovision visitors. From Burgas Airport, you can reach the city centre or nearby resorts by taxi, pre-booked transfer or public transport. City bus line No. 15 provides a direct connection between Burgas Airport, South Bus Station and the city centre.

The schedule of direct flights to Burgas for 2027 will be announced in the coming months. As soon as the schedules are confirmed, we will publish up-to-date information on Go To Burgas. You will also be able to check the latest flight schedules on the Burgas Airport website. If there is no convenient direct flight to Burgas, you can use four other international airports – Varna, Sofia, Plovdiv and Istanbul.

Special Eurovision transfer services will be arranged from all four airports in Bulgaria – Burgas, Varna, Plovdiv and Sofia – as well as from Istanbul Airport, making your journey to us even easier!

Another convenient option is Varna Airport (VAR), located 122 km from Burgas and the closest alternative international airport to the city. From Varna Airport, you can travel to Burgas by intercity bus, train, car or pre-booked transfer. Intercity buses depart every hour. City bus line No. 409 connects the airport with Varna Bus Station and Varna Railway Station, where you can continue your journey to Burgas by bus or train. For those travelling by car or pre-booked transfer, the route follows the Black Sea coast via E87/I-9 to Burgas.

Many Eurovision guests will choose to visit the capital before heading to the coast. Their gateway will be Vasil Levski Sofia Airport (SOF), located approximately 385 km from Burgas. It is Bulgaria’s largest international airport and an important alternative entry point for international visitors travelling to Burgas. During April and May 2027, the national carrier Bulgaria Air will operate additional flights between Sofia and Burgas, allowing passengers arriving on international flights in the capital to continue their journey to Burgas by air.

Burgas can also be reached from Sofia by bus or train. From Sofia Airport, Metro Line M4 provides a connection to Serdika station, where passengers can transfer to Line M2 to reach Sofia Central Railway Station and Central Bus Station. From there, intercity bus and rail services operate to Burgas.

Plovdiv Airport (PDV) is located approximately 250 km from Burgas and provides another option for international visitors travelling to the city. For those travelling by car or pre-booked transfer, it offers convenient road access to the entire Southern Black Sea coast via the Trakia Motorway (A1). A dedicated airport shuttle operates between Plovdiv Airport, South Bus Station and Central Railway Station in Plovdiv, with a timetable coordinated with flight schedules. From there, passengers can continue to Burgas by intercity bus or by train.

For those who would like to discover the beauty of neighbouring Türkiye before arriving in Bulgaria, Istanbul Airport (IST) is an excellent option. Located approximately 300 km from Burgas, it is one of the world’s largest international aviation hubs. With an extensive network of flights to more than 300 destinations across six continents, the airport provides convenient connections for visitors travelling from countries and cities without direct flights to Burgas.

From Istanbul Airport to Burgas, you can travel by international bus, car or pre-booked transfer. International coach operators provide connections between Istanbul and Burgas, with some services serving Istanbul Airport directly or offering connections to it. Additional bus services to Burgas are available from Istanbul’s main coach terminals. For those travelling by car or pre-booked transfer, the route follows the O-3/E80, crosses the Turkey–Bulgaria border and continues towards Burgas via E87/I-9.

Thanks to its proximity to Burgas and its exceptionally extensive international flight network, Istanbul Airport is an important additional gateway for international Eurovision guests, particularly those travelling from long-haul destinations.

And what if we are not travelling by air?

Burgas is the starting and end point of the Trakia Motorway (A1), which provides a direct high-speed road connection with Sofia and Bulgaria’s national motorway network. Connections to the primary road network also provide fast access to international transport corridors towards Turkey, Greece, Serbia and Romania.

Via the Trakia Motorway, Burgas can be reached from almost anywhere in Bulgaria, including Sofia in approximately 3 hours and 45 minutes and Plovdiv in approximately 2 hours and 30 minutes.

Another wonderful way to travel to Burgas is by taking the scenic railway route. The city is also connected to the European transport network through Bulgaria’s national railway system, which is linked to the TEN-T corridors. We’re in Burgas! Where do we go from here?

You have reached Burgas one way or another. So far, so good. Now it is time to find your way around the city’s dynamic urban environment – but there is no need to worry.

Especially for Eurovision 2027, the city is planning additional transport arrangements. A dedicated transport plan will be activated, including increased frequency on key bus routes, 24-hour or extended operating hours on important services, dedicated shuttle routes between Arena Burgas, the Eurovision Village and the City centre, as well as dynamic passenger-flow management through a centralised system.

And a few facts...

Burgas Municipality has a modern, integrated and environmentally sustainable public transport system, as well as dedicated priority corridors for public transport and emergency vehicles, including ambulances, fire engines and police vehicles. The transport network covers all major urban areas and is based on frequent bus services, an intelligent traffic management system, electronic ticketing and real-time passenger information. The bus fleet has been fully renewed with low-floor vehicles, more than 80% of which are electric. Every bus is equipped with a wheelchair ramp and designated spaces for passengers with reduced mobility. A dedicated door-to-door Dial-a-Ride service is also available for people with disabilities and reduced mobility, providing convenient and accessible transport. Burgas beaches also offer accessible facilities for people with disabilities and reduced mobility. The system is complemented by more than 60 km of cycle lanes, the municipal Rent-A-Bike system and electric scooter services.

Intercity buses depart from South Bus Station for Chernomorets, Sozopol, Primorsko, Kiten and Tsarevo, as well as other resorts and settlements along the southern coast. Passengers arriving from Burgas Airport on bus No. 15 can conveniently continue their journey from here to Chernomorets, Sozopol, Primorsko, Kiten and Tsarevo.

For travellers heading to the resorts north of Burgas, direct bus connections are available from the Burgas Airport area to Pomorie, Aheloy, Ravda, Nessebar, Sunny Beach and Sveti Vlas.

What if I still need help finding my way?

No worries! For Eurovision, Burgas Municipality will establish a dedicated Transport Coordination Centre, operating 24 hours a day throughout the entire preparation and operational period. The Centre will coordinate organisers, visitors, transport operators, hotels, airport authorities, security services and the production team.

You will also be able to download a dedicated urban mobility app providing real-time information on routes, timetables, bus locations, shuttle services and the fastest connections between official venues. It will also include information on Rent-A-Bike, taxi services, electric scooters and other alternative ways of getting around.

In addition, special Welcome Zones will be organised at several locations not only in Burgas but across the country: the Central Railway Station, the two intercity and international bus stations, Burgas Airport and Varna Airport. They will operate 24 hours a day for a period of 16–18 days. Welcome Zones will also be set up in the parking areas of Istanbul and Sofia airports, with volunteers stationed inside the terminals.
