500 Euro Fine for Anyone Who Jumps from the Bridge in Burgas

There are underwater rocks and iron at the bottom and a fatal accident could occur.

The beach in Burgas is already full of locals and vacationers. The lifeguards of the Northern Strip, who have been in full force at all 11 posts since July 1, are looking at their territory under a magnifying glass, but on Saturday and Sunday there are many violators who do not follow the rules.

“This weekend we had to seek assistance twice because of people jumping from the Bridge. The facility is very high, and although there are signs in 4 languages indicating that dangerous jumps – “bombs” are prohibited, the situation literally got out of control. The first time we called the municipal officials who are responsible for maintaining order on the beach, the second time – the police,” senior lifeguard Petar Rusev told “Trud”. The fine for violators reaches 500 euros, but despite this, they continue to disregard the regulations. In addition, as soon as they see the uniformed officers, they swim away and do not even return to get their clothes from the strip.

Jumping is very dangerous, as there are underwater rocks and iron bars at the bottom and a fatal accident can occur. At several places along the Bridge, belts with 30-meter ropes have been placed to be used in critical situations.

There were also many lost children on the beach over the weekend. Left unattended for even a minute, they wander confused among the beachgoers and their parents panic, the lifeguards also said. The mothers and fathers of the lost children first seek help from the lifeguards.

"Years ago, there was a radio on the beach in Burgas, and it was used to report children that their parents were looking for. Then the guards came up with a new signal. When they saw a child without supervision, they would put him on their shoulders and that way the parents could see their child. A curious fact is that when a child gets lost and loses his parents among the many people, he always goes along the strip to the north, towards Pomorie," said senior lifeguard Petar Rusev.

Rescuers also report incidents in the Sea Garden that occurred on the alleys above the strip. On Saturday, for example, there was a fire 100 meters from the Casino, but firefighters were called in time to put it out. The cause of the blaze was an unextinguished cigarette.

For now, the sea is calm, the flag on the masts is green or yellow.
