Church of St. John the Baptist

The Church of St. John the Baptist was built in the 10th century using rough-hewn stone. It is a typical example of the architectural transition from the shortened basilica to the cross-in-square church. A cylindrical drum topped by a hemispherical dome rises above the central inscribed cross, while the eastern end of the church terminates in three semicircular apses. The western, northern, and southern facades are each accented by a tall blind arch, and decorative brickwork can be seen around the windows and above the doorway. The church features plastered walls adorned with frescoes. Notable among the surviving images are a 14th-century donor portrait on the southern wall and a 17th-century depiction of Saint Marina on the southwestern column.
