Monument to the Unknown Soldier

The hundreds of thousands of unknown Bulgarian soldiers who gave their lives for the ideals of a free and independent Bulgaria are an example of exceptional heroism, courage, honor and self-sacrifice. All of them are one of the greatest prides of Bulgaria, part of a Bulgarian army that amazed with its bravery, courage and great victories. These are the people you will not hear or see in textbooks, but whose unknown feat is the basis of the Bulgarian spirit and national self-confidence. The Monument to the Unknown Soldier was erected in 1934 in front of the building of the 24th Black Sea Infantry Regiment. It is dedicated to the soldiers and officers from the Burgas region who gave their lives for the freedom and independence of Bulgaria in the Serbo-Bulgarian War (1885), the Balkan War (1912-1913) and the First World War (1915-1918). In 1939 The monument was moved to the city center on Mara Gidik Street, where it remained hidden from Burgas citizens until the 1990s. At the initiative of war veterans' organizations, it was saved and restored in front of the garrison club building.
