The legendary cycling race Giro d’Italia will start from Bulgaria for the very first time on May 8 in Nessebar.
The race will pass through the country in three stages—offering a unique opportunity for all cycling fans to experience this historic event live.
Important Information
Areas around the start and finish lines will be closed to the public.
It is recommended to move on foot, as streets and parking areas near the start and finish zones will be restricted.
Close contact with the cyclists is mainly possible near the team bus parking zones, which are generally accessible, especially at the finish areas.
Organizers’ Guidelines
Do not cross the race route, especially before the start and finish.
Do not leave hanging objects that could interfere with the cyclists.
Do not attempt to touch or take items from the riders.
Be aware that after the finish, riders are often still under adrenaline, which may affect their reactions.
Best Viewing Spots Along the Route
Stage 1
Old Town of Nessebar – including the entrance and the area near the two churches; this is the neutral zone where cyclists ride slowly and can be seen up close.
Burgas – key locations include 24th Black Sea Infantry Street near the Sea Garden, Democracy Boulevard (passed twice—at km 39 and at the finish), Ivan Vazov Boulevard, and the area near Chernomorets Stadium.
Sozopol – a nearly 22 km loop around the town; one of the best viewing points is Driver’s Beach, where cyclists pass very close. The route also includes Duni, Cape Agalina, and central Sozopol near the stadium, Republikanska Street, above the port, and Zlatna Ribka Beach.
Stage 2
Start from Troika Square in Burgas.
Route passes through Aytos (Slavyanska Street), Karnobat (Moskva Street), and Sliven (Burgasko Shose, Bratya Miladinovi, Tsar Simeon Blvd., Dimitar Pehlivanov-Dobrovich Street).
Continues through the Vratnik Pass (“Iron Gate”), Byala Cherkva (main road, Hristo Botev Blvd., Manastirska Street, past the stadium and towards Lyaskovets Monastery climb), Sheremetya, and finishes in Veliko Tarnovo (Vasil Levski Blvd., in front of the Theatre).
Stage 3
Neutral start in Plovdiv (Central Square), passing through the tunnel under the Ancient Theatre.
Route continues via Pazardzhik, Dolna Banya, Borovets, Samokov, Iskar Reservoir, Kokalyane, Pancharevo, and finishes in Sofia (in front of the Parliament).
The entire race will be broadcast live on Eurosport and HBO Max.
