ZHANINA DUBAROVA presents “BABYLON” — a solo exhibition

On October 19, 2026, at 5:30 p.m., at the Exhibition Hall of the Society of Burgas Artists (22 Aleksandrovska Street), artist Zhanina Dubarova will present her latest solo exhibition, “Babylon.” This is the artist’s fourth solo exhibition. Dubarova is a graduate of the National Academy of Art and is currently a lecturer at the Burgas Branch of the National Academy of Art. “Babylon” features entirely new works that have never been exhibited before—painting, drawing, and collage—created over the past year. The exhibition is structured around several thematic cycles, all connected by the strong influence of children’s drawings. “Babylon” brings together ideas, images, and different languages and means of creating them. “Babylon” is the place reached at the end of a long journey that began in search of free expression. And freedom in drawing is at its most powerful in children’s drawings. The pure, expressive gesture of a child, through which they communicate before they are able to speak, carries an enormous energy. It is a source of endless inspiration. Children’s drawings have always fascinated me as an artist and shaped my professional thinking. It is no coincidence that my impulse toward free expression led me precisely to them. The spontaneous trace left by the material is perfect exactly where it is and exactly as it is. Compositions born of intuition and feeling. Some of the paintings in “Babylon” were created in collaboration with my son. I used his original drawings from different stages of his childhood. Authentic childhood innocence is so unique that I chose to incorporate the drawings into the collages exactly as they were.
