St. Anastasia Island kicks off the new season with yet another major project aimed at creating an accessible environment

A favorite destination for Burgas residents and visitors to the city—St. Anastasia Island—will welcome the 2026 season with even better facilities for visitors with mobility and visual impairments. The latest project, under Contract No. 6-DS/23.07.2025 between the “Tourism” Public Enterprise – City of Burgas and the Agency for People with Disabilities, regarding Project No. 7-DS/29.04.2025, has been successfully completed. - “St. Anastasia Island – Accessible Environment for People with Mobility and Visual Impairments – Phase 2”

This includes the renovation and leveling of a section of the existing pathways, made of semi-finished stone slabs, along two routes.

The first is in the section between the Church of the Assumption and the “100 Years Ago” restaurant, and the second is from the entrance of the Church of the Assumption to the open-air stage. An information sign was also installed near the restaurant’s observation deck, featuring information in Bulgarian, English, and Braille, as well as a tactile representation of the natural phenomenon “The Ship,” located near the island.

Certainly one of the most interesting highlights is the renovation of the models from the tactile exhibition “Fish of the Black Sea,” as well as the creation of new tactile exhibits that will be placed in the museum and church buildings. The Church of the Assumption will feature three-dimensional tactile models of the Church of the Assumption, a stone reliquary containing the relics of John the Baptist discovered on St. Ivan Island, and a relief icon of the Virgin Mary.
