Church of the Holy Transfiguration of Our Lord
4.9
The oldest active Orthodox church on the Southern Black Sea Coast and the oldest building in Pomorie. Built in 1763–1764 over the foundations of a smaller Christian church dating back to the 9th century. It miraculously survived the devastating town fire of 1906. Constructed entirely of stone and wooden beams. It is unique in the Christian world as it does not have an altar facing east. Beneath the icon of the Savior lies a small holy spring (ayazmo), referred to by believers as the "Tears of Christ". Inside, priceless icons from the 16th–19th centuries are preserved.
