Church of the Holy Archangels Michael and Gabriel

The Church of the Holy Archangels Michael and Gabriel (13th century) is a single-nave, cross-domed structure with a narthex. It was once topped by a broad dome, while a square tower rose above the narthex; a stone staircase—still concealed within the church's western wall today—led up to it. Access to the church is provided by three entrances: one in the northern wall leading to the nave, and two leading to the narthex. At the eastern end, the building terminates in three small, polygonal apses featuring openings. The exterior decoration is particularly striking: the arches are accentuated by triple rows of green glazed bowls, while the spaces beneath them are filled with a checkerboard pattern of stone blocks and pairs of small bricks.
