Ancient beehive tomb – heroon (mausoleum) near the town of Pomorie

The ancient beehive tomb is a unique architectural monument combining Roman construction techniques with Thracian traditions. The structure was built in the 2nd – 4th century AD by an aristocratic Thracian family. The mausoleum consists of two anterooms, a dromos (corridor) and a central chamber. The chamber of the tomb is a semi-cylindrical ring with a central hollow column supporting the vault. The ancient beehive tomb – heroon is declared a cultural monument of national importance.
