Burgas Aviation Museum

4.6

Burgas Aviation Museum was opened on 29 June 2017, marking the 90th anniversary of the airport's founding and the 70th anniversary of the first civilian flight in Bulgaria: Sofia–Burgas. All guests have the opportunity to explore the newly developed exhibition park and uncover the secrets of the "exhibits that come to life." Using virtual reality headsets, visitors can step into the role of a pilot and take control of an aircraft of their choosing. Particularly impressive is the interactive exhibition entitled Homo Volans (The Flying Man), designed by set designer Venelin Shuреlov. It serves as the main indoor exhibition space, housed within the only remaining AN-12 aircraft in Bulgaria. The exhibition aims to bring aviation technology back to life through a wealth of fascinating authentic objects, an extensive collection of aircraft scale models, original installations and costumes, interactive displays and archives from the history of aviation. Visitors have the opportunity to sit in the cockpit of the world's most popular single-engine biplane, experience the effect of a working aircraft engine up close, handle a real aircraft black box and navigational instruments — all designed to enrich the overall experience. The Municipality of Burgas's newest attraction is located at the entrance to Burgas Airport, in close proximity to the Sarafovo neighbourhood. Every visitor can reach it by city bus (No. 15), bicycle or private car, with safe and easy access provided for all. During the winter period (November–April), the museum operates from 09:00 to 17:00 with no days off. OPENING HOURS Summer hours 1 June – 30 September every day 09:00 – 20:00 Winter hours 1 October – 31 May Wednesday to Sunday 09:00 – 17:00
