Exhibition "ARTIST AND LETTER"

The exhibition "ARTIST AND LETTER" by lecturers from the Department of "Book, Illustration, Printed Graphics" at the National Academy of Arts will open on May 20 at 6:30 PM at the Burgas Art Gallery "Petko Zadgorski". The exhibition can be viewed until June 10. The exhibition presents works by established artists and educators who explore the Cyrillic alphabet beyond its traditional functionality. Instead of the letter serving as a tool for visualizing text, the authors transform it into an independent artistic image and the main object of creative research. The exhibition features Iliya Gruev, Regina Dalkalacheva, Krasimir Andreev, Kapka Kaneva, Boyana Pavlova, Emil Markov and Dora P. Ivanova. They present calligraphy, typography, font drawings, art books and light installations that reveal the rich artistic possibilities of the Cyrillic sign. "ARTIST AND LETTER" is part of a two-year scientific and creative project dedicated to the Cyrillic alphabet. So far, the initiative has been presented at the Bulgarian Cultural Institute in Bratislava and at the Academy Gallery of the National Academy of Arts, with each subsequent exhibition building on and renewing the selection of works. Among the highlights of the exhibition are the experimental art books by Regina Dalkalacheva, the spatial paper forms and the light installation "Forest" by Kapka Kaneva, the typographic interpretations of texts by Jorge Luis Borges by Boyana Pavlova, as well as the calligraphic cycle by Burgas artist Emil Markov, dedicated to the Cyrillic letter "Er golyam". The exhibition offers a different and contemporary look at the Cyrillic alphabet - as a cultural symbol, a visual code, and a field for artistic experiments.
