Days of Portuguese Culture

The Portuguese Cultural Center "Camois Sofia", together with the CC "Sea Casino" and the Gallery "Georgi Baev", Burgas Municipality, is organizing Days of Portuguese Culture. Four days dedicated to the language, art and traditions of Portugal. The beginning will be set on June 30 with the opening of the exhibition "The World of the Portuguese Language" at the CC "Sea Casino". Students studying Portuguese will participate in the ceremony, and a traditional highlight will be the presentation of certificates to all those who have successfully completed Portuguese courses during the school year. Among the most anticipated events in the program are the two creative workshops that will introduce participants to the rich traditions of Portuguese ceramics. "Decorating Portuguese olive bowls (azeitoneira)" will present a curious element of Portuguese everyday culture. Participants will learn more about these original ceramic vessels that are present on almost every Portuguese table, and will be able to decorate them themselves with ceramic glazes. After firing in a specialized kiln, each item will become a unique souvenir of the encounter with Portuguese culture. The second workshop – “Portuguese Ceramics” – is inspired by the work of the famous Portuguese artist and ceramist Rafael Bordalo Pinheiro. His iconic cabbage leaf-shaped vessels are still a symbol of Portuguese applied art today. Participants will model their own ceramic vessel from clay, which will subsequently be fired and glazed. The program also includes an open Portuguese language lesson and three evenings dedicated to Portuguese cinema. On July 1, viewers will be able to watch the romantic comedy “Beauty and the Paparazzi” (2010) by director Antonio-Pedro Vasconcelos – a funny and emotional story about a famous actress and photographer whose destinies unexpectedly intertwine. On July 2, the award-winning psychological drama “Alice” (2005) by director Marco Martins will be screened. The film tells the story of a father who keeps searching for his missing daughter, turning hope and pain into his everyday life. The finale of the cinema program is on July 3 with the drama "Appearance" (2018) by director Fernando Vendrel. The film adaptation of the novel of the same name by Virgilio Ferreira follows the story of a young teacher who, through conversations about freedom, the meaning of life and human nature, changes the world of his students and his own life.
