Regional History Museum

4.5

The Archaeological Museum houses collections of archaeological finds related to ancient Thrace, the Greek colonies along the Black Sea coast, and the period of the Roman Empire. Unique exhibits trace the earliest history of navigation on the Black Sea, as well as the development of the prosperous southern Black Sea ports in Bulgaria throughout the Middle Ages up to the country's fall under Ottoman rule at the end of the 14th and mid-15th centuries. The museum preserves finds from archaeological investigations carried out in the Burgas region. The specialised "Treasury" hall of the Archaeological Museum presents both the gold exhibitions of the Regional History Museum — Burgas, and an extensive collection of pre-monetary forms, as well as gold and silver Greek, Roman, Byzantine, Bulgarian, Western European and Ottoman coins. The museum forms part of the Regional History Museum — Burgas, an actively functioning cultural and scientific institution with an established modern network of four principal exhibitions — historical, archaeological, ethnographic and natural history. These are housed in beautiful buildings that are listed cultural monuments, located in the heart of the city, just 4 to 5 minutes apart from one another.
