Burgas Municipality joins the "Path to the Relics of Saint John the Baptist", which is expected to officially launch on June 23 with a ceremony in Sozopol. The initiative represents a Bulgarian pilgrimage route from Malko Tarnovo to the relics of Saint John the Baptist in Sozopol, which will pass through 8 localities. The path is divided into several main pedestrian stages: Malko Tarnovo - Stoilovo - Zabernovo - Vizitsa - Pismenovo - Primorsko - Sozopol.
Initiated by Lyubomir Mechev and Hristina Jensen, the route is inspired by European pilgrimage routes such as the Camino. "Path to the Relics of St. John the Baptist" combines spirituality, history and sustainable tourism.
Burgas will support the new opportunity for the development of pilgrimage tourism in the region with a specially created city route, uniting key locations and sites. "Walking route "Believe in Burgas" - from history to the doors of the temple" is the symbolic name of the tour. From the Railway Station and Bus Station "South" - direction to the heart of Burgas and the starting point of the route along the pedestrian central street "Aleksandrovska".
The Tourist Information Center will offer the pilgrim passport with the corresponding stamp, which is an integral part of such a journey. Burgas Municipality and the Association "Camino Bulgaria - Path to the Relics of St. John the Baptist" will work together to build the third route / ray of the Way, which will start from Burgas and will be part of the entire pilgrim and pilgrimage route, with the final point Sozopol.
On June 18, representatives of Camino Europa Compostela, the Spanish Federation of Associations of Friends of the Camino de Santiago, and a Danish tour operator specializing in organized Camino tours, as well as the organizers from the Bulgarian side, are scheduled to visit Burgas.
