The area, situated at the southern end of Burgas, is one of the few places in Europe where 315 species of birds — a quarter of all species found across Europe — have been recorded within an area of just 1 square kilometre. Only in this part of the Bulgarian Black Sea coast can one observe a mixed colony of Eurasian spoonbill, glossy ibis, pygmy cormorant, black-crowned night heron, purple heron, squacco heron, little egret, great white egret and grey heron.
